What to Expect in a Reiki Session

If you've never had a Reiki session before, it's completely normal to wonder what to expect in a Reiki session — will you feel a bit unsure about what's actually going to happen? Will you need to talk the whole time? Is it going to feel strange? Do you need to believe in anything for it to work? These are the questions I get asked most often, so let's walk through exactly what a session looks like, start to finish.
Before the session You don't need to prepare anything special. I'll usually ask a few gentle questions at the start, not a deep interrogation, just enough to understand what's going on for you and where you'd like some support. This might be physical tension, emotional overwhelm, or simply a sense that things feel out of balance. There's no wrong answer here, and you don't need a clear diagnosis of what's wrong to benefit from a session.
During the session You'll lie down, fully clothed, on a treatment table, and I'll place my hands lightly on or just above different points on your body, working through a sequence that covers the head, shoulders, torso and legs. Most people find this part deeply relaxing. Some feel warmth or gentle tingling under my hands. Others feel very little physically but notice their mind slowing down, or emotions surfacing and settling. There's no single "correct" experience, and I'll check in with you throughout.
After the session Afterwards, we'll usually sit and talk briefly about what came up for you. Some people feel light and clear-headed. Others feel a little tired, like they've had a proper rest, which is completely normal as the body integrates the session. I always recommend drinking some water and giving yourself a bit of quiet time afterwards rather than rushing straight into a busy afternoon if you can help it.
Common questions
Do I need to believe in energy work for it to help? No — an open mind is enough.
Will I need to talk about deep personal issues? Only as much as you're comfortable with.
How many sessions will I need? This varies person to person; many find real benefit from a single session, others prefer an ongoing rhythm.
Is Reiki right for you? Reiki tends to suit people who are feeling stretched thin, disconnected from themselves, or simply curious about a different kind of support than talk therapy or bodywork alone. If that sounds like where you're at, a session might be exactly the reset you're looking for.
I offer Reiki sessions in Terranora, servicing Tweed Heads and the Gold Coast. If you're ready to experience it for yourself, you can book a session with me directly, or get in touch with any questions first.
